About

About

Welcome, my name is Sue and I would love to support you with your growth and journey.

I have a level 5 diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling practice, I bring a pluralistic approach to our sessions. This means you, as the client, can steer our discussions. We work together to delve into your thoughts and feelings. By combining a person-centred approach with a psychodynamic modality, we can comprehensively understand you, including how your past shapes your present.  Cognitive Behaviour Therapy provides tools and strategies to challenge and change your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

I have worked with young people in education and understand the value of enabling them to share their stories and have an opportunity to talk and be listened to in a safe space. This safety helps them test their thoughts and express their anxieties without fear of letting their loved ones down or not pleasing them.

Alongside my private practice, I volunteer for Cruse as a bereavement volunteer, working with bereavement and grief. I understand that everyone's grief is different and unique. Therapy allows clients to experience and express their grief in a safe space tailored to their individual needs and at their own pace.

I can offer short and long-term therapy face-to-face in Burford or online.  If you think it is the right time for you to explore your feelings, I offer an initial telephone or online consultation to see how it feels and for you to ask questions.

Counselling and Therapy

Are you feeling overwhelmed or stuck? I can help. I offer a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings without the fear of judgement. Feeling heard and listened to can unlock new horizons and pathways.

My approach is not about me telling you what to do but about us working together. I offer this collaborative approach to both adults and young people. I understand that reaching out for help or acknowledging that something is wrong can be daunting. But you don't have to face your feelings and thoughts alone. Collaborative therapy can empower you to take back control and gain a deeper understanding of your emotions and thoughts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the first steps?

Please contact me by calling (07918435733) and leaving a message or emailing (sue@burfordcounselling.co.uk), leaving your name and number so I can contact you. I can offer a free initial consultation over Zoom or the telephone so you can ask questions and let me know what you hope to get out of counselling.

The National Counselling Psychological Society accredits me, and I abide by their code of ethics Code of Ethical Practice (ncps.com)

What happens in our first session?

Each session is 50 minutes long and can take place online or in person in Burford. Prior to the first session, I will share my address and bank details with you. In the first full session, you and I will share a contract and discuss it. You will then have the opportunity to talk about how you have come to counselling and start setting your goals for the sessions.

How much does each session cost?

Each session costs £55, and payment must be made 48 hours before the session. If the session is not paid for, you may lose your session time to someone else. Please get in touch with me if you have any issues with payment or are unable to attend sessions.

I am happy to discuss concessions for students and those on a limited budget; please ask me for further information.

How many sessions do I need?

This question is difficult, but I offer short-term and long-term counselling. The number of sessions needed will be discussed in the first session and reviewed as the sessions progress.

How do I pay?

At the moment, I only have facilities for Bank transfers (BACs) or cash. Please let me know if this will be difficult for you, and we can investigate other payment methods. I will share my bank details after the initial consultation.

What is expected of me during counselling?

These sessions are for you and your time to share your thoughts and feelings.  The safe space I can create will empower you to question and discover new things about yourself.

What happens if I cannot make a session?

Life happens, and sometimes, you won't be able to make a session. If you can let me know more than 48 hours before the session, we can reschedule, and there will be no charge. Less than 24 hours' notice will mean that you will be charged for the session.

If you or someone you know is currently in a crisis situation requiring more immediate support, please consider calling the emergency services or call the Samaritans on 116 123.
